The VoiceAnnounce 560CW Caller ID screens calls, announces the caller's number or programmed category through a built in speaker, and displays the name and number of the calling party on the built in LCD display. It works in conjunction with your local telephone company's caller ID and call waiting ID. VoiceAnnounce 560CW provides telephone security, freedom of movement, peace of mind, and the enhanced quality of home life you have always desired. Further, it provides more convenience to communicate effectively with loved ones, and other frequent callers. Your VoiceAnnounce caller ID unit works with 4 AA alkaline batteries and/or an AC power adapter. The unit is shipped with either batteries or a power adapter, but not with both. In either case, the programmed caller information is held in memory, even during power outages. This concludes section 2, Introduction. We now begin section 3. Section 3: VoiceAnnounce 560CW installation. Before we begin, let's get orientated with the back of the caller ID unit where the phone jacks are located. Hold the unit so that the phone jacks are at the top of the unit and facing you. 1.) Connect a telephone line from the wall jack to the jack on the back of the caller ID unit marked "LINE". That is the middle jack on the unit. Please pause the tape now and complete this step. 3.) If you are using an answering machine, connect that to the jack marked "ANS MACHINE" on the back of the caller ID. That is the jack on the extreme right of the unit. If you do not have an answering machine, or if your answering machine is installed in a different room of your house, you may disregard this step. Please pause the tape now and complete this step. 4.) Plug the transformer of the AC adapter into the electrical outlet on the wall. Next connect the small end of the AC adapter to the caller ID. The left-most key is round and is marked "PROGRAM". The next key from the left is also round and is marked "MODE / DIAL". There is a long elliptical key on the right side of the unit. This is the review key and has 2 positions; left review, and right review. Above this elliptical key is a small round button marked "CLEAR" The long elliptical "REVIEW" key located on the front of the unit is used to review the names and numbers in the call log. The "PROGRAM" key on the left side of the unit is used to program a number to a category. The "CLEAR" key above the "REVIEW" key is used to delete numbers from the call log. The "MODE / DIAL" key near the middle of the unit is used to dial back any number in the call log, and to step through 5 modes of operation. The modes of operation are in the following order; 1 Review calls 2 Review category 3 Enter Number 4 Select Category 5 Adjust Volume Each of these modes will be discussed in depth latter. Directly above the keys is the visual display LCD. The default display shows the current date and time, the number of new calls, and the number of total calls. When a call is received the display shows the date and time of the call, the telephone number calling in, and, if available, the name of the person calling. This completes section 4, VoiceAnnounce 560CW Front View. We now begin section 5 Section 5: Default Idle Position Display When the unit is properly installed, the display should show "NEW CALLS 00" "TOTAL CALLS 00". When you first connect your new caller ID the date should read January 1 and the time will start at 12:00. The date and time will automatically be corrected when you receive your first caller ID telephone call. There is no option to manually set the date and time on the VoiceAnnounce 560CW. You are now ready to receive calls on your new VoiceAnnounce 560CW caller ID. This completes section 5, Default Idle Position Display. We now begin section 6. Section 6: What Does the VoiceAnnounce 560CW do for me The 560CW allows you to screen incoming calls before you answer the phone. It announces the 10-digit telephone number of the caller. It allows you to program categories to be announced instead of the phone number on all future calls from individual callers. Some of the other things the VoiceAnnounce 560CW does for you is that it stores the name, number, date and time of the last 99 calls in the call log. It also allows you to review the call log for both visual display and audible announcement. The VoiceAnnounce 560CW automatically deletes the oldest call from the call log when the call log is full and another call is received. Categories are not automatically deleted when the call log is full. To delete a category, refer to section12. This completes section 6, What Does the VoiceAnnounce 560CW do for me. We now begin section 7. Section 7: Checking Out Your New VoiceAnnounce 560CW. The first thing you should do is call a friend or relative in the area and ask them to call you back. Between the first and second ring, the 10-digit number that they are calling from will be announced, and the name and ten-digit phone number will be displayed. When the call is completed, the name, number, date, and time of the call will be stored in the call log for latter review. Pause this tape and complete this step now. This completes section 7, Checking Out Your New VoiceAnnounce 560CW. We now begin section 8. Section 8: Review the Call Log The VoiceAnnounce 560CW will store up to 99 call records in the call log. The calls will be stored in the order in which they were received. The caller ID information is stored in the call log as soon as it is received, even when you are away or chose not to answer a call. After you have received several calls, or when you return home from a brief absence, you may review the call log to see who called while you were away. When reviewing calls, press the left review key to review from last call received to oldest. Press the right review key to review from the oldest call in the call log to the newest call. To review calls visually, simply press and release the review keys repeatedly to scroll through the call log, and the caller ID information will be displayed on the LCD screen. To review calls audibly, press the "MODE" key once, to access the "REVIEW CALLS" mode. Then simply press and release the review keys repeatedly to scroll through the call log, and the caller ID information will be announced and displayed. This completes section 8, Review the Call Log. We now begin section 9. Section 9: Other Announcements. When your VoiceAnnounce 560CW announces "number blocked", the caller has invoked a service that prevents their number from being transmitted to you. When your VoiceAnnounce 560CW announces "number unknown", the telephone company was unable to identify the caller. Quite often this means that it is a tele-marketer who is calling. This completes section 9, Other Announcements. We now begin section 10. Section 10: Programming a Category. Your VoiceAnnounce 560CW allows you to program numbers to categories. To program a category, review the call log until you hear the number of the caller you wish to program. Press the "MODE" key three times. "SELECT CATEGORY" will be displayed on the screen. To delete a category, press "MODE" key twice and "REVIEW CATEGORY" is displayed. Press the review key and a caller's category and number is announced. Select the category you wish to delete. Press the "CLEAR" key quickly and the category will be deleted from the memory. Be careful when you do this step because if you hold the "CLEAR" key for 2 seconds, all programmed categories will be deleted from memory. This completes section 12, Delete a Category. We now begin section 13. Section 13: Adjusting the Volume To adjust the volume of the 560CW Talking Caller ID, press the "MODE" key 5 times. The display will read "ADJUST VOLUME". Press and release the right "REVIEW" key to scroll through the different volume levels. The volume levels of the unit directly relate to the volume of the beep that is heard. A double beep indicates that the volume of the unit is off. Turning the volume off only means that you will not hear incoming calls over the speaker. You will still have volume from the speaker when reviewing the call log. This completes section 13, Adjusting the Volume. We now begin section 14. One beep means that feature is on, and 2 beeps means that feature is off. You have approximately 15 seconds to activate a key before the display automatically reverts back to the default screen. The menu items are as follows; 1.) Reset 2.) English / Spanish 3.) Message Beep 4.) CW Category This completes section 14, Special Features Menu. We now begin section 15. Section 15: Reset Feature Upon first entering the Special Features Menu, you will immediately be in the "RESET" feature. Pressing the "PROGRAM" key at this time will reset the unit. By resetting the unit, you will delete anything in the memory, including the call log, and recorded categories. All special features will be reset to factory defaults. This completes section 15, Reset Feature. We now begin section 16. Section 16: Language Selection The English/Spanish feature allows you to chose what language the 560CW will announce in. This completes section 16, Language Selection. We now begin section 17. Section 17: Message Beep The Message Beep, when enabled, will audibly alert you to the presence of voice mail (if you subscribe to this service), with a beep approximately every 4 seconds. This completes section 17, Message Beep Feature. We now begin section 18. Section 18: Call Waiting Category Only Feature When the CW Category feature is enabled ("ON") you will only hear call waiting information for those numbers that have been assigned to categories, (for example friends or family). You will not hear call waiting information for those numbers that have not been assigned to categories, (for example pesky sales calls). When this feature is disabled ("OFF") you will hear all calls on call waiting announced as either the 10 digit phone number, or the category recorded in memory. This completes section 18, Call Waiting Category Only Feature. We now begin section 19. Section 19: Conclusion This concludes the VoiceAnnounce 560CW Caller ID users guide.
